About Genie

All my life I've been interested in photography. I started as a child using a 110 mm camera and an old Polaroid I bought at a garage sale. In college, I began using a manual 35-mm camera, falling in love with the craft. I've gone from the dark room days to the digital age, loving the creative freedom my Canon 5D gives me today. Portraiture is my real passion believing that the human form is the most beautiful and complex of all of God's creation. Everyone has a story to tell. I want to help them tell it! I like to get shots that are spontaneous. I prefer not to direct my subjects too much. I'm always trying for that shot that catches my subjects being themselves. I rarely use a tripod, especially with children. I like to move around, shoot from different angles. I "dance" around in the subject's world to get the shot that shows who they really are. I prefer to shoot with natural light. I believe this is the most flattering light for portraits. The good ole sun is my best piece of equipment. Besides, it's more fun to shoot outside. Nature, in all it's beauty, is also one of my best tools as a photographer.
